I've fallen in love.....with Salzburg!  The Sound of Music Tour was terrific.  A bit corny at times, but the tour guide did a great job and told us stories of how the musical was made, sang songs and showed us the palaces and gardens and gazebos that were used in the movie.  At the same time we had a pretty comprehensive tour of the city.  Salzberg is rather beautiful, neat and tidy and it looks like people care about the city.  We stopped and had an apple strudel and icecream along the way. After the tour the four of us went on a walking tour into the old town and saw all things dealing with Mozart and all the beautiful old buildings.  I could live here!

The girls wanted to visit every boutique along the way and my poor old legs couldn't cope any longer, so I left them and walked back to the hotel for a well-earned rest.  Don't think I'll move out of the room till tomorrow (actually, I already have as I'm using the internet in the bar of the hotel because when the girls returned they wanted to skype and we can only have one connection going at a time).

Tomorrow we are off to Interlaken in Switzerland.

  1. Salzburg, Vienna, Venice, Prague & Paris my favourite cities!

Glad to see you are (nearly) keeping up with the young ones - and having a good time. I also loved Interlaken so enjoy and go on the cable cars.

You seem to be spending a lot of time in Bars and Beer Gardens - must be bad influences going on :)

  2. Yes John, she has had to lower her standards to drinking beer as she reckons the wine they serve up in the restaurants is not up to her high standards!! Not that she dislikes beer.

  3. Hi John,

Glad to hear you are reading my blog. We are in Interlaken today (Saturday) and it is raining and cold. Don't know what happened to summer. I think cable cars are out of the question as the clouds are at eye level. Can't see the tops of many mountains. I've done it before anyway, and from what I recall it was great. The girls are quite content shopping (ugh!) and it's not just ordinary shopping, it's designer stuff they look at and buy. Tomorrow we take the Golden Pass Panoramic train from Interlaken to Montreux which is supposed to be spectacular for its scenery. Just hope it isn't raining again. None of us brought much in winter clothes let alone wet weather gear. Thongs or flip-flips as they call them, just don't cut it.

Hope the case-load is not too great, John. Tell Darrell I'm missing it terribly.

    ciao
