Had conveniently forgotten how awful long-haul travel is. Spending 12 hours sitting in a cramped space on a plane is one of the worst things about travel. Cathay Pacific is just average as far as airlines go. Lacks the communication provided by Qantas. There was no information to passengers disembarking at Heathrow as to what they should do or what to expect depending on whether they were ending their journey there or continuing. Meals were OK but the little niceties and the attention to detail weren't there. I put it down to the language barrier, but they all seemed to speak English. One had to wave furiously or say 'excuse me' as the hostie flitted past with a tray of drinks. Opening a window shutter was forbidden until just before landing.
Apart from all that, I befriended a couple of nice people along the way. Andrew, a teacher from Yorke Peninsula was heading off on a D-Day Tour and this was his first trip OS. Kerryn, an English, South African New Zealander who lives in Whangarai, NZ, was heading for London to visit her sick mother. She and hubby run a webdesign business and used to be in the hospitality industry - funny how many commonalities there are with people you meet along the way.
Watched some pretty awful movies in flight. I must admit I don't like watching must-see movies on planes as the flight noise, tinniness of the speakers and acute discomfort of the plane seats don't make for an enjoyable experience. So I choose movies that I'm not hangin' out to see.
Might turn this thing off now and go for a stroll to stretch my legs. 30 hours of inactivity can't be good.
